Prof. Vladimir N. Anisimov is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal Advances in Gerontology, and serves as an Editorial Board Member of many international journals. He worked as head of the Department of Carcinogenesis and Oncogerontology, N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology, St Petersburg, Russian Federation & President of the Gerontology Society at Russian Academy of Science, 2nd European Congress on Biogerontology, VI European Congress of IAGG. Prof. Anisimov has received research grant awards from the Russian Science Foundation, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, U.S. National Institute of Health, Max Plank Institute for Demographic Research, IAGG European Region Award for Advances in Gerontology and Geriatrics ,etc. He has so far authored more 500 peer-reviewed publications and his work has appeared in a number of top-class journals including Nature Rev. Cancer, Adv. Cancer Res., Aging (NY, Albany), Exp. Gerontol., Biogerontol., Mutat. Res., Interdiscipl. Topics Gerontol. (Karger) etc. The central areas of investigation include the following: (1) Mechanisms of age related susceptibility to environmental carcinogenic factors; (2) The role of growth hormone – insulin – IGF-1 signaling in aging and cancer and effects of metformin as geroprotectors and anticarcinogen; (3) The pineal gland, melatonin and circadian desynchronosis in aging and cancer.
